One Day Competition - Sydenham vs OBC, Seniors, Sydenham #1, 29th October 2011
The Prems side secured their first one-day victory in over a year on Saturday against Old Boys Collegians. Sydenham lost the toss and were put into the field on a slow wet outfield. The bowlers hit good areas and made runs very hard to come by for the OBC batsmen. As the ball got wet it became even harder for OBC to score and with every bowler doing a good job it set the innings up well for a bit of spin. Ben Rapson was introduced into the attack and he set about destroying old Boys middle and lower order taking 5- 13 from 7 overs and contributed to dismiss Old Boys for 120. Ably assisted by Scott Grose on his Senior debut who took 2 wickets.
To chase down the total Sydenham knew they had to stop letting sides bowl at them and take it to the bowlers. This is exactly what Ben Rapson did, using his feet well and not letting the OBC bowlers settle into a line and length. At 50 -2, he was joined by Sean Heather who did not want to be out done by the aggressive Rapson and he took to the OBC bowlers as well and from here on there was no way back for OBC and Sydenham knocked off the runs in 32 overs only losing 2 wickets, for not only a victory but a good old hammering. Rapson finishing 65no and Heather 34no.
Sydenham will take a lot of confidence in their performance and move up to 6th place in the table with 4 games to go. A place in the semi-finals very much in their sights with only 5 points between them and 2nd place.
