One Day Competition - 3B Goats vs OBC, Hospital Corner #1, 3B, 17th October 2015
A cold Hospital Corner 1 was the venue for our game vs Old Colls who won the bottom 8 section of last years competition. They won the toss and surprisingly to us, chose to bat. Alex Brailey got an early breakthrough and bowled with good pace with the southerly at his back.
With the pitch doing a bit they struggled to get on top of our attack, especially once we dismissed their number 3 for a well compiled 37. Jon and Pat kept them quiet through the middle stages of the inning and picked up regular wickets. It wasn't till their keeper came in and hit a quick 26 that they gained and attacking impetus but they were eventually all out for 118 with one over to bowl.
Needing to bowl us out to win they went on the attack early and picked up regular wickets. Chris looked really solid but when he was dismissed all of a sudden things looked a bit shaky. Josh and Dougy played important innings, not scoring a lot of runs but staying in and using up overs from their better bowlers. unfortunately they were both dismissed at 66 and we were 6 down. Luckily by this stage their 3 good bowlers had basically bowled out so Heath and Pat had little problem getting us close and it was a surprise when both managed to get themselves out just short of the target. Jon and Alex knocked off the few remaining runs easily for a 2 wicket win. The story of the bowling was 3 of their bowlers bowled 24 over and took 6-29, the other 14 overs went 2-80. An ugly win on a scratchy pitch in a freezing wind but another 5 points on the board for the Goats. Jon was MVP with 4-7 off 8 and 14no.
Man of the Match: Jon Bennett
