3B Goats Match Report (28th November 2015)

One Day Competition - 3B Goats vs Heathcote, Bradford Park #1, 3B, 28th November 2015

This week found us at Bradford Park playing Heathcote in a battle of two teams with only one loss each so far.

As we struggled to differentiate the pitch from the outfield we were pretty keen to win the toss and have a bowl but that wasn't to happen and the Goats found themselves batting first. The openers negotiated the first 10 overs slowly but surely as Heathcote bowled well on a low, slow pitch taking the score to 19 before the first wicket fell. However this soon became a procession and at the 20 over break we were 5/39 and looking in real trouble.

The next 10 overs found the scoring rate nearly non existent but as we still had batsmen to come and we had realised that every run would count batting the 40 overs was key. As the overs came to a close Alex H and Jon started to swing the bat at a few and we were eventually out in the last over for 85. Not a lot but something to bowl at.

Now, our bowlers turn and Alex B and Tom bowled fantastically. Both went at around 1 an over and Tom picked up 3 early wickets including their opener (who looked handy) who left the ball down leg side which swung back and bowled him around his legs. Alex H came on a bowled fast. While he conceded a few runs Jon was keeping it tight at the other end. After 20 overs they were 4/29.....game on.

They came out and started playing a few shots but their captain fell trying to pull Jon and finding the ball coming through at ankle height and the game was back on even terms. With 8 overs to go the game reached the point when the Goats 4 bowlers had all finished. We needed 4 overs each from an injured Pat and Chris and they needed about 30. Both bowled really well and coming to the last over by Pat they needed 7 and we needed 1 wicket. 1 run and 3 ball later the striker hits the ball straight back to Pat and with the non striker already half way down the pitch the easy run out gave the Goats the hard fought win.

A match with 164 runs, 28 maidens and 20 wickets turned into an exciting encounter with the good guys coming out on top.

Man of the Match: TBD
