One Day Competition - 3C vs Merivale Papanui, Waltham Park #2, 3C, 27th February 2016
If your Saturday night's revolve around enjoying my lengthy prose, then sorry - this is going to be brief. A wee nap has done me the power of good - but I am still well short of hydration equality.
Anyway - firstly cheers to the ring-ins; Rhys Narbey, Richard Olaf Macleod Cooke and Daniel Thomson. Three very handy players who are welcome back anytime.
Captain fantastic lost the toss and it was into the sun we went. It was obvious from the outset that we were up against it, as despite the mid 30C, more than two of their players had thermals on.... conditions more appealing for some than others. Some pretty good bowling across the board, and some good ground fielding meant that wickets fell at regular intervals. Lads were lining up to field on the boundary, as the shade afforded by Waltham Park's arboretum. Wickets were shared around, though James Stokes was the best with 3-31, as they ended on 164/8 off their 40.
Batting was not as hot as being in the field, but a few of the lads let themselves down with poor shot selection. There were some bright moments, but overall they bowled a tight line which drew the frustrated shots. Of particular concern are Ronnie's bowling figures of 7-5-2-5. If you have played this side, you will remember Ronnie. He makes Analbait look positively rapid.
We were all out for 89 with overs up our sleeve. James Gallagher top scored with 18.
Man of the Match: TBD
