One Day Competition - Sydenham vs LPW, Seniors, Hagley #1, 15th October 2011
Both teams emerged through the gloom of a truly horrible, cold and wet day.
Sydenham's captain Sean Heather started the day well by winning the toss and batting first, unfortunately that was the last thing that went well for the Rangers.
Wickets fell at regular intervals and never allowed the Sydenham batsmen to establish any momentum. There was a mini fight back through a 4th wicket partnership between Ben Rapson (29) and the newly arrived Durham exchange player Graham Clark (22).
However, once Clark fell , Rapson wasn't far behind and from there the tail limped to a total of 97 off 41 overs. While the LPW bowlers were very accurate and consistent, none of the batsmen took any initiative to get the innings going and this allowed the bowlers to dictate terms.
The LPW batsmen were quick to seize the initiative from the Sydenham bowlers however and were not about to let it go. They knocked the target off for just the loss of 3 wickets with plenty of overs to spare, thanks to captain Kerryn Ambler (42) and coach Michael Parlane (25*). Pick of the bowlers was the young left armer Braden Gardener with 2-19 from 7 overs.
Needless to say the boys were very disappointed with their efforts and will be doing their utmost to turn out a better performance in the next match.
